That Within Blood Ill-Tempered is the second studio album by metalcore band Shai Hulud. It was released on May 20, 2003 through Revelation Records on CD and LP format. A Special edition LP (Picture Disc) was released through Matt Fox's Ides of March (Now At Dawn We Wage War) Records on March 30, 2004. It was finished in May of 2002, but due to artwork disagreements, the record got released a year later. After almost three years, an independent EP that sold 1,000 units, and a tour in which they opened up for PAX217; Number One Gun releases their first national recording Celebrate Mistakes on Floodgate/Salvage Records. The band is comprised of Jeff Schneeweis (lead vocals/guitar), Ben Tietz (guitar/vocals), Trevor Sellers (bass), and Jordan Mallory (drums); Number One Gun is, by definition, an emo/punk rock band. At first glance, they resemble Further Seems Forever, but after multiple listens, their sound can be compared with the most accuracy to Too Bad Eugene (They possess the same melodic screams as both of the aforementioned bands). They have a bit of a Hangnail-twinge as well in the musical department.
The album is really all about the title, Celebrate Mistakes. "Really it's all about humbling yourself, realizing our humanity," Schneeweis explains on www.FloodgateRecords.com. "When you make mistakes, you just have to face it, learn from it and get on with life. God has given us the resources to deal with any situation we are put in. He gives us hope, and a way out. That's really what the album is all about."

Blessed By A Broken Heart - Pedal To The Metal (2008)

One thing about modern times; if you live long enough, you get to re-experience the past in sometimes refreshing ways, and sometimes disturbing ways. A lot of hard rock and metal kids now reaching their late teens and early twenties who used to snub the eighties are finding out there's more identification than previously met their floor-scuffing indifference. Certainly there's plenty to jibe the eighties for as there is with any decade, but the joke is now on the twenty-somethings because today's metal has already run smack into dead-end corners that the only way out has been to seek alternate measures to the breakdown-romanced way of things. Or in the case of bands like Sound and Fury and now Montreal's Blessed By a Broken Heart, the answer is to draft past rock theorems in order to find inspiration.

In the case of Blessed By a Broken Heart, they've spent enough time familiarizing themselves with eighties metal and dance rock, everyone from Lion to Europe to Pseudo Echo, but instead of completely hijacking that vibe, they merely fuse it into a metalcore conscript. This should sound very shaky on the front and it most certainly is a flashpoint marriage on their album Pedal to the Metal, particularly when you can jazzercise to this thing as quickly as you can aerial kick your way in young man's constitution of a slam pit.

In fact the music sounds more like good progressive hard rock ever so slightly jacked up on human growth hormone. Comparisons to Evanescence seem inevitable; Alexia has a similar voice. Other comparisons could be made to Lacuna Coil or Otep or In This Moment.

The songwriting is of good quality. It has intelligent thoughts expressed well with good cadence and form. The songs touch on many subjects: divorce, relationships, isolation.

Eyes Set To Kill have a lot of good elements. I hope the group sticks together. As they gel they’re music should reach a wider and wider audience.

Everything in Transit may be considered a concept album, that tells the story of Andrew McMahon finally coming home after years of nonstop touring with his band Something Corporate and getting re-accustomed to everyday life and a settled abode in Los Angeles, California. The songs were written during his first summer in years outside of the band, which McMahon spent scribbling lyrics and accompanying drawings into a private sketchbook, selected pages of which can be accessed through a web-link to a secret homepage on the enhanced CD portion of the album. The song meanings are at times more cryptic than one might be used from McMahon's Something Corporate songs, as the lyrics describe a more personal view on feelings and situations and all take advantage of a first person's narrative style.

Listen to Bob Dylan: A Tribute is a tribute album, dedicated to Bob Dylan. The two disc set was released on August 16, 2005 by Drive-Thru Records. Despite the record label's reputation for its emo/pop punk roster, the compilation album contained cover versions kept close to the originals, instead of pop punk renditions of the songs.

When announced in December 2004, the album was supposed to contain other artists, including Fall Out Boy, Flogging Molly and Hellogoodbye. Later track listings featured "With God on Our Side" by Straylight Run, "Hurricane" by MC Lars and "Subterranean Homesick Blues" by The Kites, which were all cut from the actual release.

Inside the booklet of the double disc album, Stephanie Reines (co-founder of Drive-Thru Records) describes that she hopes the album will be successful in "exposing a new generation of listeners to Bob Dylan." She also dedicates the album to Dylan, thanking him for "providing the soundtrack to the past 16 years of my life." Reines also describes how she came about listening to, and enjoying, Bob Dylan.

The Sound Of Animals Fighting - Tiger And The Duke Re-issue (2007)

The Sound of Animals fighting are an experimental/progressive rock band incorporating many members from bands such as Rx Bandits, Finch, and Circa Survive. Originally made in 2005, Tiger and the Duke is the band's first album, and although with only 4 real, full-length tracks (the rest being interludes), these 4 tracks alone make the album so worth it. With epic, tight math-rock and post-hardcore tendencies, Anthony Green's raw, yet awesome screaming vocals (along with numerous other great vocalists), and electronic breaks and interludes, the EP-ish album takes you through an adventure that makes you totally forget that it's only 4 real tracks. This 2007 reissue of the album introduced cleaner re-recorded versions of the songs, alongside 8 remixes of songs from their sophomore, 2006 album, Lover, the Lord Has Left Us... This album really is just quite a treasure and a very fun listen. Highly recommended.

Socratic - Spread The Rumors

Spread the Rumors is quite the surprise. For one, the band relies on less piano and a lot more poppy hooks to lure in its listeners. Furthermore, frontman Duane Okun's vocals have undergone quite the renovation from slightly rough in Socratic's first album Lunch for the Sky to a polished, more suave quality. It would not be surprising if previous fans run through this entire album with furrowed eyebrows and slightly cocked heads over the new sound.

Musically, Socratic have simplified their techniques, thus creating a more generic pop-rock album. The band depends more on the basic guitars and drums to emit a feel-good vibe. The record may arrive as a disappointment for previous Socratic fans who adored the flying fingers of pianist Vincent D'Amico; the piano is well out of the limelight and merely plays accompanying chords to add to the vibe of each song. The one exception "Diamond in a World of Coal" gives the piano a lovely duet with Okun's new voice; the result is a very dainty track reminiscent of a huge part of Socratic that we seem to have lost in Spread the Rumors.
