From the pre-dawn early-bird sales on Black Friday to the last-minute panic attacks at the mall on Christmas Eve, it's the sonic backdrop for the season. In shopping malls, in the grocery store, in the free clinic, while you're on hold talking with your bank. It's everywhere, and we're just going to have to deal with it for a few more weeks.Since Dustin Kensrue was behind that "Boy, the world could really use more alchemy-themed concept albums," decision that's dominated the output of his full-time band, Thrice, maybe we shouldn't be too surprised in his latest lack of judgment. At least he's not cutting four inter-related EPs in tribute to Frosty, Santa, Rudolph and Charlie Brown's pathetic Christmas tree.Holiday music is everywhere this time of year, and Kensrue's just adding to the avalanche of stuff you probably don't want to hear -- he's rehashing the same old carols with the same old ideals. Monty Are I - Wall Of People (2006)

Getting right down to it, the biggest problem with the Stolen Transmission debut from Monty Are I is the lack of new songs. That new-car smell applies to CDs too, and those who enjoyed the band’s 8-song debut, The Red Shift, might not find Wall of People as appealing as first-time listeners. Six of the eleven songs are taken from The Red Shift and spruced up a bit before being slapped onto the new CD. While the band have changed their name from Monty's Fan Club to Monty to the current moniker, Monty Are I, their drive and determination remains intact, perhaps even refined as time has allowed them to mature a bit. They are consistently noted for an electric live show, but some complain they are not always up to par on CD. Wall of People combats that stereotype to some success, although a few holes in their recorded performance remain.

Attack! Attack! - Someday Came Suddenly (2008)

Attack! Attack! from Ohio, not to be confused with Attack! Attack! from the U.K (Why a U.K band stole another bands name is beyond me?) but anyways, onto they’re new album Someday Came Suddenly. When I heard about this album being released I jumped onto it because Attack! Attack! has been mentioned by a few people that I know. After learning this band was a “screamo” band It scared me, because I figured I would highly dislike them and piss a bunch of people off, It turned out to be a little better than I originally thought.
A band that delivers amazing instrumental breakdowns, and delivers on target emotion on almost every song. This band has its flaws, but makes up for them in other areas that most bands lack in. I do not think any song should be complete “screaming” and since a few of the songs on this album fall under that category it does kind of down the overall delivery of the songs. Screaming is to be used as a mixture, and when this band does that they do it well. Most of the songs on this album mixed much better than the two songs on Escape The Fate’s new album that did not mesh screaming with singing that well. This band has a lot of hype among my generation, a little more than I believe they should have, but not by much. The band delivers well and does what they set out to do.

Attack Attack! - Attack! EP (2008)

Attack Attack! have a little more to offer for those who are willing to invest their time in a heed (or five). While listening, some are stricken with songs that might feel more like they’re at a club than in the presence of their own speakers. But rest assured that this isn’t the case for the entire album. Lovely keyboard progressions (Caleb Shomo) are the instrumental frosting on the cake amongst the heavier heaves of the guitars and kit. Vocalist Austin Carlile shows that there’s more than one side to every singer (well, minus pop-princesses and boy bands).

William Control - Hate Culuture (2008)

William Control is the side project of post-hardcore band Aiden’s frontman William "wiL" Francis and from the outset I was imagining a very screamo-led record full of angst and hatred aimed at anyone who would listen. And I was half right.

The record is clearly influenced by the electronica sounds of David Bowie and Depeche Mode. wiL’s vocals are very enigmatic and a far cry from his wails on many of Aiden’s records. However, that been said, the cover of Cry little Sister for the film Lost Boys is nothing less than breathtaking - if anyone knows where I can get a copy… hit me up!

Anyway, back to this lovely new album; as it commences, as all great albums should, with a prologue; however, this one doesn’t exactly sell the record to the eager listener however telling them they will “shag” later on is always a good thing right?

Funeral for a Friend - Memory and Humanity (2008)

As the follow-up to last year’s Tales Don’t Tell Themselves, this is the first album to be released from the boys’ own label Join Us Records and will hit our shelves exactly five years to the day that they released their debut record Casually Dressed And Deep In Conversation.

This album sees them return to the original sound they adopted on that first record: but even bigger, and far, far better. Fair enough Matt Davies’ vocals can never really change, but this time they are more addictive than ever before.

This offering sees them combine all the great things they have learnt over the past five years to produce what is arguably their best album yet; marrying their stadium-rock presence with perfectly timed screaming vocals and more-ish melodies whilst still retaining their unique character.

Copeland - You Are My Sunshine (2008)

You Are My Sunshine will be Copeland’s 4th full length record (not counting their B-side album). The band started off with ‘Beneath Medicine Tree’ which showed off the softer side of the band, graduating then on to a more rock orientated ‘In Motion’. ‘Eat, Sleep, Repeat’ took the band in a completely new direction exploring darker tones along with other arrangements. One thing you can expect from You Are My Sunshine is that it won’t be like anything we’ve heard from the band before. In the same way the band makes a point in choosing art work to represent the songs, they also have yet to be confined to a specific style and way of making music.

Bring Me The Horizon - Suicide Season (2008)

What what? Is this the new record from Bring Me The Horizon? Really? In the space of one album the chuggy deathcore of ‘Count Your Blessings’ has all but gone and been replaced by ten tracks of ranging metal spiced with moments of quasi punk rock and dashed with electro touches left, right and centre. Vocalist Sykes sounds like Frank Carter from Gallows and the band sound like old school Norma Jean playing Refused and Underoath covers twice as fast as the originals. First listen through is bewildering, second listen is not much better but by third listen it starts to click, by listen four you dig it and by listen five you have the guilty thought that this might be one of the best metal albums to be released in 2008. The one error of the record is the track ‘No Need For Introductions, I’ve Read About Girls Like You On The Back Of Toilet Doors’. If Sykes wanted sympathy or understanding for the turmoil he experienced when he was taken to court by a woman who alleged he urinated on her then he certainly lost it when he screams “After everything you put me through / I should have fucking pissed on you.” Not smart.

Four Year Strong - Rise Or Die Trying (2007)

I thought I was in for one of those pop-punk screamo bands or called Happycore. Well, pretty close, as it’s pretty much pop punk with a scant few screamo style screams, gruff hardcore shouts and gang vocals. For some reason the band also has an extra member to play synths, but those are used at a bare minimum.
This was one of those lighter albums I really wanted to like. Four Year Strong have done everything properly on “Rise Or Die Trying”, and the effect is an album that’s purely safe. If they were able to put some bizarre signature into what they’re playing, that would give myself and a lot of other people a reason to pick up an album, but as it stands, they just get lost in the shuffle of all their other brethren.
