1997 - On The Run (2008)

Nineteen Ninety Seven is back with their sophomore album, ‘On The Run’. Although the band went through a slight line up change by replacing one female keyboardist with another I doubt that’s the reason for such a different direction than the debut release.

Despite being a little more pop punk-ish, the band’s last record, ‘A Better Moon Rising’ had so much more passion and energy compared to ‘On The Run’ and I do think not having it hurts the album. Maybe I was hoping/expecting more but needless to say I was extremely let down by this album.

Secret Lives! Of Freemasons - Weeken Warriors (2008)

The biggest downfall of the album is that it’s just so damn ordinary. Weekend Warriors passes by in a completely uninteresting fashion without a single strong standout. Lacking in memorable hooks, the album drudges along in generic monotony, completing itself as a largely forgettable collection of pop songs. I’m left wondering, "What have I actually listened to?" as I can’t actually recall any particular track getting into my head, aside from the one repeated line in “Mascara” which beats into your skull by sheer repetition.

Jamie's Elsewhere - Guidebook For Sinners Turned Saints (2008)

JAMIES ELSEWHERE's unique blend of singing and screaming, as well as their gift for blending the heavy with a beautiful sonic quality, comes through on every single track of their Victory Records debut Guidebook for Sinners Turned Saints. The lyrics flow smoothly with an urgency to reach to the heart of those who hear them, which is exactly the mission this band was trying to accomplish.
Guidebook For Sinners Turned Saints is a moving and ambitious rock album that is destined to be one of the most talked about debuts of 2008. Combine the hooks of Silverstein and Hawthorne Heights along with the melancholy of Chiodos and a lighter Taking Back Sunday and you have an incredible mix that will connect with fans of honest and emotional hard rock.
